Coaches

Decide what the sign-up form asks, what coaches need on file, and gather every coach's offers, can'ts and wishes.

Do this

  1. Under What the sign-up form asks, tick what to ask and press Save the sign-up form.
  2. Under Before a coach goes on a team, tick what coaches need on file and press Save what coaches need.
  3. Set Last day coaches can answer and press Ask coaches for their availability.
  4. Check each coach's Can’t and would rather, and add any they told you.
  5. Put each coach on their child's team, or invite them to the staff first.

What the sign-up form asks

Each question is this season's own. A simple league asks nothing.

  • Ask for coaches: parents can offer on the sign-up form, and anybody can offer on their own page.
  • Practice nights a child can't make.
  • A shirt size.
  • Whether a child plays as a girl or a boy, so co-ed teams come out even.
  • Which school a child goes to.

With school asked, choose under When teams are built, schools are whether schools are spread across the teams, kept together or not considered.

Press Save the sign-up form to keep the choices. Only owners, admins and directors see this part.

Before a coach goes on a team

Tick what a coach must have on file, current, before going on a team's staff, like a background check. Press Save what coaches need.

A coach without it is refused a place on a team's staff until it is on file. Whoever runs the club is never stopped by their own rule.

Record each one under Cover, or under Staff if the club does not use coach cover. A coach whose check runs out is flagged beside their team on the season page.

Coaches’ availability

Set Last day coaches can answer and press Ask coaches for their availability. Each coach who has offered is emailed their own page, the address shown here.

There they give the nights and times they can't, and what they would rather. Stop taking answers closes it early.

Before you set a day, a coach can add theirs as soon as they offer. After the last day only the club can change anybody's.

With Ask for coaches on, the same page lets anybody offer to coach, with or without a child playing.

The coaches

One card per coach: what they offered to be, how to reach them, their children and teams, and their Can’t and would rather.

A can't or a wish can be weighed beside it and saved with Set. Remove takes it off. Add one for a coach adds one you were told.

A can't can be Must keep or Avoid if possible. Avoid if possible is kept where it can be, and broken only when nothing else fits. A wish can be Low, Normal or High.

Weighing is how to break a conflict without deleting what the coach said. Each coach's can'ts and wishes go with them to whichever team they are put on. A team with two coaches is held to both.

Take back withdraws a coach's offer.

Getting coaches onto teams

An offer grants nothing. Somebody coaches once they are on the club's staff.

Not on the staff yet? Press the invite button on their card, if you may invite staff. Once they are, a button makes them head coach, assistant or team parent of their child's team.

Only owners and admins invite staff. Anybody else sees that an owner or admin invites them from Staff.

Somebody with no child playing goes on a team from the season page, once they are on your staff. Add one of your staff puts one of the club's own staff down to coach this season, so they are asked for their availability too.

Common questions

Why can't I put a coach on a team?

They are not on the club's staff yet, or they are missing something the season asks for on file. Invite them, or record the missing check.

Do a coach's can'ts really change the schedule?

Yes. The league's schedule and the practice planner keep to every can't of every coach on a team. Soften one to Avoid if possible if the schedule will not fit.

Who sees this page?

Staff who handle sign-ups. The sign-up form and the coach rules are only for owners, admins and directors.
