Import families

Add a whole spreadsheet of children at once, checking every row before anything is written.

Do this

  1. Export your families as a CSV file from your old system.
  2. Press Choose a CSV, or paste the file under Or paste it.
  3. Under What the columns are, check what each heading was guessed to be.
  4. Read What will happen: who will be added, and which rows will not.
  5. Press the add button to write them.

The file

Choose a CSV file, or paste its text. Nothing leaves this page until you have seen what it will do.

Up to 2,000 rows at a time. Split a bigger file and run it twice.

What the columns are

Each heading in your file, its first row, and what it was guessed to be. Change any guess with its menu. Not importing this ignores that column.

First name, last name, date of birth and guardian email are needed. Grade, guardian name and Their id in your old system are optional.

The date of birth and the guardian's email are how a family claims the record. A row without them would make a record nobody can claim.

Dates can be written 2016-05-13, 05/13/2016 or 13/05/2016. A date like 05/06/2016 is read month first, as May 6. Check the preview if your file came from outside the US.

Grades can be K, Kindergarten, 3, 3rd or Year 3.

What will happen

How many children will be added, and how many rows will not be. Open the list of rows that will not be added to see each line number and what is wrong.

The table shows the first 20 children as they will be written. Fix the file and paste it again if anything looks off.

Running it twice

Running the same file again adds nobody twice. A child already here is matched and left alone, not overwritten.

A match is the same id from your old system or, without one, the same last name and date of birth.

After the import

Every child arrives waiting to be claimed. They can be scheduled and coached straight away.

Nobody is emailed. Each family takes their child's record over by signing in with the address you imported. Nothing is charged before that.

Common questions

Why are my dates wrong in the preview?

A date like 05/06/2016 is read month first. If your file puts the day first, change it to 2016-06-05 style in your spreadsheet and paste it again.

Will importing again make duplicates?

No. A child already here, by your old system's id or by last name and date of birth, is left alone.

Are families told they were imported?

No. Send them your share link. Each record becomes the family's when they sign in with the imported email.
